Heritage Free Farmed Bacon

Kiwi Heritage bacon is the star of our range. Consumers love its unique rich, mature flavour, succulence and generous thick slices. And when you cook Kiwi Heritage it retains its shape in the pan and loses no moisture. The process to create our favourite bacon involves curing in a unique brine, extended smoking and drying on racks, all to deliver the thick cut, great tasting slices of bacon discerning bacon buyers love. Kiwi Heritage has won medals in the 100% New Zealand Bacon Competition twice in the last few years which we are immensely proud of.
However we are always looking for ways to make even our best product better. After listening to consumers and hearing how important it is that you know where your bacon comes from, we decided that Kiwi Heritage should be free farmed and started looking for a supply of free farmed bacon.
We visited quite a few farms, but they didn't tick all our boxes. And then we visited Patoa Farms in North Canterbury and met Steve and Jens. These guys are as passionate about their pig farm as we are about our Kiwi Heritage bacon, so we are very excited to be partnering with them in bringing Kiwi Heritage Free Farmed bacon to you.
Free farmed refers to the sows (female pigs) being farmed outdoors in paddocks, with shelter provided to protect the sows from the elements and special huts for farrowing (breeding). The sows can move from their shelters to the paddock freely and without restriction. Pigs are raised under shelter to protect the pigs from the elements. Importantly for many people, no sow stalls or farrowing crates are used.
Now that you know the story, we are very proud to introduce to you Kiwi Heritage Free Farmed Bacon, grown by Patoa Farms in Canterbury. Available in two popular flavours, Triple Smoked and Honey Cured, you'll find Kiwi Heritage bacon is a great start to your weekend.
